Privacy Policy

Shuck Off LLC runs an oyster shucking competition, a pop-up oyster bar, and a private events service in Sacramento, California. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

Effective August 2, 2026

Who we are

“We,” “us,” and “Shuck Off™” mean Shuck Off LLC, a California limited liability company at 58 Aiken Way, Sacramento, CA 95819. This policy covers shuckoffsac.com and the services we operate from it.

What we collect

Information you give us. Depending on what you do, that may include:

  • Your name and email address when you sign up for early access, enter as a competitor, volunteer, or ask about a private event.
  • Your mobile number, but only if you ask us to text you when a pop-up order is ready. See “Text messages” below.
  • Waiver and release details if you compete or volunteer, including your signature and the date you signed.
  • Event and catering details you send us in an inquiry or quote request.
  • Business contact details if you are a vendor, sponsor, or partner.

Information collected automatically. Standard web data — pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, and the link or campaign that brought you here.

Information from others. If you buy a ticket, our ticketing provider tells us who is coming and what they bought. Card payments are handled by our payment processor; we receive a confirmation and the last digits of the card, never the full number.

Why we use it

  • To run the event — admissions, competitor brackets, volunteer shifts, and safety.
  • To answer you when you contact us, and to send quotes and invoices you asked for.
  • To tell you your food is ready at a pop-up, if you asked us to.
  • To send event news to people who signed up for it — and only to those people.
  • To meet legal and food-safety recordkeeping obligations, including shellfish tag records required of California food facilities.
  • To understand which of our own links and posters actually work, so we spend less on the ones that don’t.

Text messages

If you ask a staff member at a Shuck Off™ pop-up to text you when your order is ready, we record your mobile number and your consent against that order. You get one message per order. It is transactional, never marketing. The full program is described on our text message page.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories of data described in this policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for assistance. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We share it only with the companies that run parts of our operation for us, and only so far as they need it to do their job:

  • Vercel — website hosting and traffic analytics.
  • Supabase — our database and file storage.
  • Brevo — sending email and, where you consented, text messages.
  • Square — card payments at pop-up events.
  • TicketsCandy — ticket sales for the main event.
  • Cloudflare R2 — storage for event photographs.
  • Google Analytics — aggregate website statistics.

We will also disclose information if the law requires it, or if it is genuinely necessary to protect someone’s safety. If our business is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.

Photographs and video

Our events are photographed and filmed. If you attend, compete, or volunteer, you may appear in images we use to promote future events. Competitors and volunteers agree to this in the waiver they sign. If you appear in a photograph and would rather not, email us and we will remove it from anything we control.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of cookies. One remembers that a visitor has clicked one of our tracked links so we can tell a returning visitor from a new one — it holds a random identifier, not your name. Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics set their own cookies to count visits. You can block cookies in your browser; the site will still work.

How long we keep it

Inquiries and quotes are kept while we are talking and for a reasonable period afterwards. Waivers, invoices, and food-safety records are kept as long as the law requires. Mobile numbers given for an order notification are kept with that order’s record and are not added to any marketing list. Email subscribers are kept until they unsubscribe.

Security

Data is held in access-controlled systems, encrypted in transit, and reachable only by the small number of people who run the business. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise — but we do not keep card numbers, and we do not keep more than we need.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it, and stop texts by replying STOP. California residents have rights to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing under the CCPA — we honor those requests from anyone who asks, whether or not the law requires it of a business our size, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Email [email protected] and we will respond within 45 days.

Children

Our services are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. Minors attend our events with a parent or guardian, who signs on their behalf where a waiver is required. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top. Material changes to how we handle text messages will also be reflected on our text message page.
